One of the greatest benefits of landscape lighting in the winter is that brings light to those early, dark evenings. It makes those cold nights feel warmer by illuminating all the beauty your home and property offer. In most cases however, winter brings snow and… well… that means your landscape lighting system will need some attention.
Here are 4 tips to keep your lighting system at its best after a snow storm!
After a big snow storm, your landscape lighting fixtures are likely buried beneath snow drifts. Unlike halogen bulbs, LED bulbs do not emit enough heat to melt the snow. This means that in order for the landscape lighting to illuminate your home properly, you will want to go out and clear the lenses of the fixtures.
Clearing your fixtures is easy! All you need to do is take a broom and brush the snow off the lens so the light can shine through. While you are out clearing the snow off the lenses, it might be a good idea to wipe away any debris or deposits that are on the fixtures after its snows so that the light can shine its brightest.
When the ground freezes and thaws, buried wires can often be pushed to the surface, exposing them to possible damage. If you spot some exposed wires in your landscape, you will want to rebury the wires before the ground freezes again. Before doing so, check for any damage to the wire. If the wire is damaged in any way, call a landscape lighting professional to make the needed repairs to the wire before putting it back into the ground.
In the same way wires, ground stakes can also be brought to the surface due to fluctuating temperatures of the ground. These simply just need pushed back into the ground and straightened out. Be careful when doing so as to not snap the ground stake.
LED outdoor lighting are sensitive to water and moisture. Much like any of our other electronics, if an LED bulb comes into contact with moisture, it is bound to short. Since they are sensitive to moisture, it is extremely important to have a high quality fixture that keeps the moisture away from the bulb.
Here at Landscape Lighting Pro, we vetted thousands of models to curate a selection of landscape lighting fixtures that are built to last a lifetime. We install the highest quality fixtures to keep the bulb protect from moisture and outside elements that can cause harm to the system. If something does go wrong, we offer a lifetime warranty on all our fixtures. So either way…you’re protected!
